FluenTea uses the service providers below to deliver its product. Each
entry gives the provider, what it is used for, the personal data involved and
where it operates. Institutions are told in advance before a new provider
starts handling their data, and can object under their agreement with us.
All providers operate in the United States unless stated otherwise.
Hosting and delivery
Google Cloud Platform (Google LLC). Hosting of
our servers, database, file storage (including recordings) and cache.
Holds all data stored in FluenTea. Region us-central1, Iowa, United
States.
Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.). Delivery and
protection of the website and web application; reading the country of
a visitor's IP address to decide whether to show the cookie banner;
and Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits to our web pages. IP
address and request information. Global network, United States
company.
Calls and speech
LiveKit (LiveKit, Inc.). Video and audio calls.
Live call audio and video, and call identifiers.
Deepgram (Deepgram, Inc.). Speech-to-text for
calls. Call audio. Every request carries Deepgram's model-improvement
opt-out: the audio is kept only for as long as the request takes and
is not used to train Deepgram's models.
Google Cloud Speech-to-Text (Google LLC). Backup
speech-to-text for calls when Deepgram is unavailable, and word timing
in reading exercises. Call or recording audio.
Google Cloud Text-to-Speech (Google LLC). Spoken
audio for ChaCha and for lessons. The text to be spoken.
AI
Google Gemini (Google LLC). ChaCha's coaching and
conversation in text and voice, lesson content and learner feedback,
analysis of pronunciation in speech recordings, and translation of
messages and transcripts. Conversation text or audio, recordings, the
text to be translated, and the learner's first name.
Anthropic Claude (Anthropic PBC). Used by our team
when reviewing session transcripts for quality and product improvement.
Transcript excerpts selected by a FluenTea team member. Data from a
school or company account is included only with that institution's
written agreement.
Session transcripts from a school or company account are not used to
train AI models unless that institution agrees in writing.
Payments
Stripe (Stripe, Inc.). Payments on the web. Name,
email address and payment details. FluenTea never sees or stores a card
number.
Link (Link, LLC, a Stripe company). Reseller and
merchant of record for subscriptions bought on the web: takes the
payment, collects sales tax and VAT, issues the receipt and invoice and
answers billing questions. Name, email address, payment details and
the billing location needed for tax, held under Link's own privacy
policy.
RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.). Subscription status
for purchases made in the mobile apps. FluenTea user identifier and
purchase details.
Google Play (Google LLC) and the
Apple App Store (Apple Inc.). Payment for in-app
purchases, under each store's own terms.
Email and notifications
SendGrid (Twilio Inc.). Email, such as
verification, password reset and notifications. Email address, name and
message content.
Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google LLC). Push
notifications to the mobile apps. Device token and notification
text.
Product analytics
Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation). Usage
analytics (session recordings and heatmaps). Text and typed input
inside the web application are masked. On the website and web
application, Clarity runs in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland only after
the visitor accepts analytics cookies; everywhere else it runs without
asking first. The Android app starts Clarity's app SDK each time it
opens, in every country, and it records app usage and crash
information.
Cloudflare Web Analytics (Cloudflare, Inc.). Visit
counts for our web pages; see Cloudflare above.
GrowthBook (Growth Book, Inc.). Feature testing,
based on a random browser identifier rather than an account.
Google Tag Manager (Google LLC). Loads in the web
application. The container currently carries no tags of its own, so it
collects no analytics for us; it delivers the Google Ads tag below. IP
address and request information.
FluenTea does not use Google Analytics.
Advertising
FluenTea does not show ads, does not sell or share personal data for
advertising, and builds no advertising profiles. The one
advertising-related tool is the measurement of our own ads:
Google Ads (Google LLC). Measuring sign-ups from
our own ads. The tag loads only on the sign-up and onboarding pages of
the web application, never in the iOS app, never on a school page and
never for a learner who joins through a school's link. Google receives
the page address, IP address and browser details and, when an account
is created, one sign-up event, with no name, email address or other
account details. Its cookie follows the marketing choice in the cookie
banner: in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland it is set only if the
visitor accepts marketing cookies; elsewhere marketing cookies are on
by default and can be turned off in Cookie Settings. Student data is
never used for advertising.
Support and safety
Slack (Slack Technologies, LLC, a Salesforce
company). Internal alerts for our support and safety team. Username and
email address of an account involved in a report.
Services that handle data under their own terms
When you use the following, the provider also receives some of your
data and handles it under its own privacy policy.
Sign in with Google, Microsoft or Apple. If you
choose to sign in this way, the provider confirms your identity and
shares your name and email address with us.
OpenStreetMap Nominatim (OpenStreetMap
Foundation, United Kingdom). When you enter or detect a location in
your profile, your browser sends the text you type, or your
coordinates, to look up the place name.
YouTube (Google LLC). Some pages show a video
embedded from YouTube, which receives your IP address and may set
cookies when the video loads.
Google Fonts (Google LLC). Our public web pages
load their fonts from Google, which receives your IP address.
Google Play and the Apple App Store, listed under Payments, also act
under their own terms.
